Hello and thank you for being here.

I spent over 20 years running farmers markets in London. The Evening Standard called me Queen of Markets when I once reached the dizzy heights of being included in their 1000 influencer people lists. So I kept the title.

I’ve cooked and catered, written articles on seasonal eating, made radio programmes about corned beef and confectionery history, and a tv documentary about whelks because, well, no one else wanted to.

I’ve been passionate about food ever since I learnt to read and could reach the stove. I’m curious about all aspects of what we eat and why from land justice and food sovereignty to animal welfare and food miles. I believe that everyone deserves to eat good food. And wherever I am in the world I’ll make for the market where local people shop. I post interviews with food writers about their favourite markets, producer stories, food stories and whatever interests me, and I hope you too, with food at the heart.

Articles are published every week.

There will also be sound recordings and interviews. Sometimes the posts will be about markets, what’s in season, producer interviews etc. Other times they’ll be more quirky, taking on what ifs and whys, food memories and stories.
