I would never ever eat a meal on a sofa by the tv ( maybe nibble of cheese and biscuits at a push ) … I live alone and love to cook so it’s a glass of wine, a place at the table.. (candles even on a Saturday night perhaps) .. I am worth it ! And who wants food splashes on the upholstery anyway ?
As somebody with a degree of social anxiety and awkwardness, I'm more likely to enjoy my food if I'm eating alone. For various reasons, I rarely eat at restaurants (usually just when traveling), and I'm not alone in those cases. At home, if alone, I tend to eat while watching something, usually the news (but I won't eat if the news is too tragic or wrenching). I set a place at the dining table and watch opposite my laptop. I don't like that I do this, yet I do it anyway. Go figure. This was an interesting piece--it gave me some genuine "food for thought." Thank you for writing and sharing.
Thanks for this Cheryl. I will be a brazen table for 1 from now on.
