What’s also sad is when supermarkets label some squash as ‘culinary’ squash to get over the fact that they are edible and not just for decoration or carving. One I bought and cooked recently tasted wonderful with a lovely chestnut flavour.
It would have been good if it had included the variety, as well as saying ‘culinary’. It’s the same with Satsumas and Clementines being called ‘easy peelers’. As if the most important thing about them is how easy you can peel the skins, rather than how good they are for you. Fibre, vitamin c, etc. Some may be a bit fiddly to peel, but they are delicious and worth the effort of getting a little pith under your fingernails.
So much waste, some people have probably been carving for years and never tasted the Pumpkin. Or Winter Squash, or……

That's shocking. I can understand that decorative gourds should be labelled as such but not winter squash or pumpkins
